Marilyn Walker passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on May 21, 2011. Fortunately, she had her daughter, Pam, and son-in-law, Mark, at her side in Grand Junction. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and all who knew her delightful smile and caring manner.
Marilyn was born in 1943 in Boulder. She attended Boulder High School, where she was the class Salutatorian of the graduating class of 1961. Marilyn then attended Colorado State University on a full Boettcher Scholarship where she then graduated in 1965 with honors and a bachelor’s degree in Finance. Marilyn was a member of Beta Epsilon in honorary business and economics at Colorado State University. She was also a very popular member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and still maintains friendships with her fellow sisters of the Sorority.
Marilyn met her husband, Stephen, in 1965 while working her first job in Denver. They married and had two children, Stephen and Pam, while moving from Denver to El Paso, Texas, and then on to Chicago. After they divorced, she moved back to Boulder and began working at the University of Colorado in 1981. Marilyn was with the University’s Residence Hall Department for twenty-five years until her retirement in 2005, where she met many cherished friends over the years that continued through today.
Marilyn was a devoted grandmother, mother, daughter, sister and aunt. She loved her children and cherished the time she had with her grandchildren. Marilyn was known as an aficionado of detective novels and preferred late night talk radio over television programs. She loved living in Boulder, the beauty of the mountains and its spectacular weather.
Marilyn touched the hearts of all who knew her, family, friends and colleagues.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Pam; husband, Mark, and their children, Brianna and Kylie; son, Stephen; his wife, Solange; and their son, Mattias; sister, Marjorie; her husband Del, and their children, Nick and Arianne; a large family of loving in laws, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 26, at 1:00 p.m. at the Crist Mortuary in Boulder (3395 Penrose Place).
