Martha Amelia Eliopulos, aged 89, passed away on Monday, April 3rd at 7:43 PM. Martha had recently been diagnosed with Colon Cancer. She was in Hospice care at home which gave her family the opportunity to spend some quality time with her and comfort her in her final days.
The memories of her final days will be cherished by her family along with so many memories from her entire life. Mom and dad, looked forward what became nightly face time connections with their son Martin who was not able to travel. Frequent phone calls with their son Jim and daughter-in-law Denise, brought her joy. Mom and dad were excited that Jim came to Longmont to be by mom’s side on her last day. Her son George was frequently over visiting and helping with care taking. And Mom and Dad appreciated the flowers and visits when George brought over Beth. Her son-in-law Richard has been there all along and doing so much for mom and dad and doing so many care taking duties. Helen was Mom’s primary care taker and was did so much for mom. Because Helen and Richard were there, mom was able to spend her final days at home.
Mom and dad looked forward to the many face time connections, phone calls, visits from their grand-children Sophia, Alexander, Max and Alexis. All will miss her dearly.
It is worth saying that mom loved visits from Annie the puppy. And she loved the cats Jonesy and Ripley who somehow knew and slept patiently on her lap all day on her final day.
Mom was born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan by her parents Susan and Martin who emigrated from Slovakia. She and her husband Alex had music in common and they met and fell in love after Alex convinced her to accompany him on the piano for an aria he as performing. She and Alex came to Cheyenne in 1959 where they raised their family. Mom was a music teacher who taught at numerous schools and will be remembered for the amazing musicals she inspired her students to perform.
In 2003, she and Alex moved to Grand Junction, Colorado where they lived until 2017. They enjoyed a beautiful home in a beautiful location and frequent visits by their children and grandchildren in retirement until moving to Longmont, Colorado where they currently live.
Martha and Alex were members of Sts Constantine and Helen Eastern Orthodox Church while in Cheyenne. Then St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church in Grand Junction.
Mom will be remembered for her smiles, even in the face of adversity. She was an avid walker. Loved playing her piano. She also was deeply spiritual and would pray every day and would contemplate big questions about life.
A ceremony will be held at Sts Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox church at 11AM on April 11th. Reception at George’s later that afternoon. Directions for reception provided at service.
In lieu of flowers, family is asking that donations go to the Iconography Project at Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Boulder, Colorado.
