The world lost a good one on Saturday, Dec. 29 when Mary Louise Klassen of Louisville, Colo. slipped away peacefully in her sleep at 90 years old. Mary lit up the lives of everyone around her with her wit, charm, smile, and compassion. She was a life-long flirt who was exceptional at banter with her grandchildren, and was regarded as “the funniest of old ladies” by her great-grandchildren. She was a treasured friend and family member to so many.
Mary was born on July 23, 1928 to Kathleen and Pat Adkins in Fort Worth, Texas. Mary graduated from Shawnee High School in Oklahoma and as a young woman she was a switchboard operator for the telephone company. She married Richard Klassen on November 11, 1951 and had four children: Kathleen, Elizabeth, Cynthia and Jeffrey. When she was done raising her family she became a dedicated volunteer, a supporter of charities, and a valuable member of her community including an active member at Louisville United Methodist Church.
Mary is survived by her children Katie Perea (Billy), Elizabeth Taylor, Jeffrey Klassen (Jessica), and Cindy Spray; her seven grandchildren Charles Chitwood (Jessica), Michaela DeGraw (Jesse), Richard Klassen, Kathleen Taylor, Rochelle Klassen, Troy Spray, and Sara Eaton (Dave); seven great grandchildren Hunter Mora, Mayzin DeGraw, Monroe DeGraw, Cassandra Chitwood, Khloe Eaton, Addison Eaton, and Sean David Eaton; and her brother Don Adkins. She is preceded in death by her parents Kathleen Moreland Adkins and Roy Patrick Adkins, her sisters Caroline and Patricia, her great granddaughter Mylee Eaton, her son-in-law Mark Spray and her loving husband of 58 years, Richard Klassen.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary Louise Klassen (aka G-Ma) on Wednesday, January 2nd at 2pm at Louisville United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Legacy Assisted Living in Lafayette or Louisville United Methodist Church.
