Maryanne Walsdorf

Maryanne (“Mary”) Walsdorf, age 81, of Broomfield CO, passed away October 1, 2021. She was born on November 9, 1939, in Green Bay, WI to William and Evelyn (Strutz) Ricker. The family moved to Appleton, WI, when Mary was 7 years old, and she graduated from Appleton (West) High School in 1958. Mary went to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she graduated in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in business marketing. It was in Madison that she met the “love of her life, “ William (Bill) Walsdorf and they were married in Portland, OR, April 7, 1962. She was very close to her sister Ginny, and they had many memorable and loving times together. Bill’s career with the US Fish and Wildlife Service took them to many different locations around the United States. Mary always lived by the motto ”Bloom where you are planted,” and enjoyed life wherever it took her. She was especially devoted to her two beautiful children, Susan and Peter. Her family were always the center of her life, and later her grandchildren, Sam, Tara, and Luke, were her pride and joy. Mary enjoyed a career as a tax practitioner for 6 years, and then a realtor for 17 years in Leavenworth, WA, where she and Bill lived from 1977 till 2002. She and Bill moved to Colorado in 2002 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Mary loved the outdoors, and being close to nature. Hiking in the mountains in WA and CO was a passion of hers. She also loved skiing, tennis, travelling, golfing, reading, and playing the piano. Mary was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church in Boulder, and was active in the USTA (United States Tennis Association) and communities in Anthem Ranch. She was a volunteer at Children’s Hospital Colorado for many years and was also a hospice volunteer later in life. Spirituality and self-discovery were very important to Mary. Her relationship with God was always evolving, especially when she faced major challenges in her life. She was always seeking ways to improve her life and her outlook, and to help others as well. Mary is survived by her husband, Bill of Broomfield, CO, son Peter Walsdorf and his wife Hope of Lakewood, CO, grandchildren Tara and Luke Walsdorf, sister Virginia Block of Ontario, CA, son-in-law Richard Harvey, many nieces and nephews, and numerous treasured friends. Mary was sadly pre-deceased by her precious grandson Samuel Walsdorf, and her beloved daughter Susan Walsdorf Harvey.
