Orus J. Matthews Jr.

Orus J. “Jay” Matthews, Jr. passed away on December 5, 2018, at age 80 in Louisville, CO, following several years of declining health caused by Huntington’s Disease.
Jay was born in Philadelphia, PA, to Orus Jones Matthews and Suzanne Armstrong Matthews. After Jay graduated from Princeton University, he moved to the West. In Denver he joined the investment firm of Boettcher & Company where he became a general partner during that 18-year career. He then made a career transition to real estate investments.
Jay is survived by his wife Marianne “Muffy” Bartram Matthews; they were married in 1995. Jay’s two daughters from his first marriage are Judith Lynne Matthews of Jackson, WY, and Rebecca Evans Matthews, of Belgrade, MT. Jay’s brother is Frederick A. (Linda) Matthews of Buffalo, WY. Jay’s half-sister is Suzanne Wood of Santa Rosa, CA. Jay’s grandchildren are Evan Ladao, Kaitlyn Ladao, Alexander Ladao, Lianna Nixon and Dylan Nixon.
In earlier years, Jay enjoyed outdoor activities including horseback riding, fly fishing, scuba diving and traveling.
