I was a good friend of Bob's at Rochester. We were suitemates his last year there. We called him Clarkie. Memories of him often occur to me, and always with good humor. Bob was wonderfully affable. I never saw him in a bad mood—his light sarcasm always elevated him above sadness. And I remember him as someone who was always glad to see me, even when I dropped in on him unexpectedly, on two occasions, during his first life in Boulder. He was very bright and probably the best natural athlete I have ever known. Completely ambidextrous, he excelled in basketball, football, and baseball. But his intelligence saw well beyond a future as an athlete. I remember him as a highly gifted young man, blessed with high intelligence, great athletic ability, handsomeness, and a wonderfully likeable personality. I trust his son has inherited those gifts.
I can hear him laugh.
