Robert Ronald Graham passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, April 29, 2026, with his wife and sons by his side.
Ron was born on April 9, 1941, in Jasper, Florida. In December 1948, he moved with his family to Jacksonville, Florida. He was the fourth of six children born to Willie Graham Sr. and Leamie Curry Graham. Ron graduated from Matthew W. Gilbert High School, where he met the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Gwendolyn Violet Smith.
Music was a shared passion for Ron and Gwen. Both were clarinetists in their high school band—and their shared love of music and adventure would set them on a life long journey together. After graduation, Ron joined the United States Air Force. Upon completing basic training and technical school, he returned to Jacksonville to ask for Gwendolyn’s hand in marriage—first seeking the blessing of her parents, Benjamin Jefferson Smith Sr. and Mildred Bradley Smith. They eloped, and their adventure began.
Ron proudly served 23 years in the Air Force as an Administration Superintendent. His service took him and his family around the world, including assignments in Illinois, Hawaii, Texas, Japan, Missouri, Turkey and ultimately Colorado. He received numerous honors including the Joint Service Accomodation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. Ron retired with honor on September 30, 1982.
Retirement did not slow him down. Ron went on to manage solar installation projects throughout the Denver metropolitan area. He later became a district manager for Incredible Universe, overseeing a tri-state region of electronic stores. He eventually joined the United States Postal Service, where he earned his second retirement on March 26, 2019 after 18 years of service.
Those who knew Ron knew the fullness with which he embraced life. His faith in God anchored him, and his devotion to New Hope Baptist Church in Denver sustained him throughout the years. His passion for music was unmatched—he loved a wide range of genres, reflected in his vast collection of albums, CDs, and reel-to-reel recordings. He also had a deep love for photography and was rarely seen at family gatherings without a camera in hand.
Above all, Ron’s greatest joy was his family. He loved attending family events, capturing moments behind his lens, and cheering at the sporting events of his grandchildren, Tyler and Elijah. His love for family was deep, constant, and unmistakable.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Willie Jr., Charles, and Luther Graham; his sisters Bennie Graham Rucker (Charles); and Dessie Mae Graham Morris(Eddie) his nephew Craig Rucker; his father- and mother-in-law; and beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, Benjamin Jefferson Smith Jr. (Cornelia), Bernice Smith Garner Billingslea (Alphonso), Willie Smith Jr. (Lucile), Lawrence Smith, Rudolph Smith (Clara), Ollie Smith (Susie), Lillian Marie Smith Wells (Alfred), and Vernon Smith.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Gwendolyn Smith Graham; his sons Brian Graham (Charlie) and Brent Graham (Alexis); his grandchildren, Tyler Griffin (Cam) and Elijah; his great-grandson Cassius Alexander Graham; his cherished brothers- and sisters-in-law Mildred Sapp (Willie), Joyce White (Douglas), Oliver Smith (Pat), and Juanita Smith; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Ron’s legacy is one of love, faith, music, devotion, and family—a life well-lived and deeply meaningful to all who knew him—now at peace and forever remembered.
