Robert Williams was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Raymond Williams and Betty Loumarie Lindquist on a sunny spring day in 1957. Raised in Evanston, Illinois, Bob grew up with a zest for life that led him all the way to Boulder, Colorado, where he earned his degree in journalism from the University of Colorado in 1979. After a brief stint in the U.S. Navy, Bob returned to Chicago and worked at Cranston Studios, but it was his creative pursuits in graphic design and later web design that truly made him shine.
In the early '90s, Bob met Kimberly Gerth, and together they created a family in Richmond, Illinois, with three children—Connor, Griffin, and Teagan. Bob was a devoted father who wore his love for his kids like a badge of honor, often lighting up with pride when talking about their latest adventures.
In 2016, Bob moved to Colorado, where he reconnected with his college sweetheart, Janice Merdes. The two married in a beautiful ceremony in Denver in April 2022, surrounded by family and friends.
In 2023, Bob was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a battle he faced with incredible courage and an unwavering sense of humor. His positive spirit and infectious laughter remained a constant throughout his year-long fight. Bob passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, surrounded by loved ones, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and lightheartedness that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue Williams. He is survived by his sister, Lynn Blomberg; his former wife, Kimberly Williams; their children, Connor, Griffin, and Teagan; his wife, Janice Williams; Janice's children, Sylve O'Rourke, Lucas Sugg, and Summer Hatton; as well as his two beloved grandchildren, Micah Williams and Owen Sugg.
An unapologetic Chicago Bears fan, Bob's loyalty to the team never faltered, even when the seasons were less than kind. He loved skiing, classic movies, home renovation projects, and—most of all—spending time with those he loved. His heart was full, his laughter contagious, and his goofy sense of humor a gift to all who knew him.
Bob's family would like to thank his care team at the Colorado Blood Cancer Institute in Denver and the wonderful staff at Crist Mortuary in Boulder, where he was cremated. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (lls.org) or Bob’s favorite charity, It’s All About the Kids Foundation (itsallaboutthekids.org), to help support those fighting blood cancers.
Bob's life was a testament to the joy of family, the value of laughter, and the strength that comes from loving fully. We will miss him deeply and celebrate him joyfully, knowing that his spirit will live on in all of us who carry his memory with a smile.
