Ron was born in New Mexico and grew up in Granada Hills, California. He was a 1980 Distinguished Academic graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Sciences, Aircraft Design. After graduation, Ron attended pilot training at Laughlin Air Force base in Del Rio, Texas. His first assignment was as an Instructor Pilot at Laughlin AFB in the T-37. Ron finished his Air Force career as an Aircraft Commander in the C-130 at Yokota Air Force Base, Japan in 1988.
After his time with the Air Force, Ron attended the University of Texas School of Law, where he graduated with Honors in 1991. Upon graduation, he became an associate in the corporate legal department of Weil, Gotshal & Manges in Houston, Texas. In 1995, Ron moved his young family to Boulder, Colorado, where he worked first as in-house counsel for IBM, then Infoprint Solutions, and lastly, Ricoh USA. Ron recently retired as Assistant General Counsel with Ricoh USA.
Ron met and married Wendy, the love of his life, at Yokota AFB, Japan. Ron and Wendy’s engagement was exactly one week long, as her visa was expiring and she was not eligible to stay in Japan. He joked that he married her so that he could continue to date her. Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Wendy, and his three sons, Matthew and wife Tabitha, Marshall, and Will. He is also survived by his sisters, Mina and Carrie. Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Marlin and Nancy McCurdy.
Ron was an avid cyclist, completing Ride the Rockies eight times with his sons. Ron also enjoyed skiing the back bowls of Vail every chance he got. When not skiing or cycling, Ron could be found outside moving rocks, amending soil, and building rose structures for Wendy. He kidded that there wasn’t a project that Wendy wasn’t willing to tackle for him to build.
The legacy of which Ron was the most proud was his three sons. He was their biggest fan, supporter, and swim timer extraordinaire.
Ron had strong faith, a clever sense of humor, and was always willing to help others. He was a man of gentle strength.
