Ruth was born in a small house on a mountain near Garretts Mill, Maryland in 1926, the youngest child of Joseph T. McGolerick and Esty Mae Best. She spent much of her teenage years in Middletown, Virginia where she worked at the Wayside Inn, later working as a stenographer at the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Washington, D.C. during the war years.
On the Fourth of July, 1944, she met the love of her life, Navy Yard Machinist Alvin Sapp. They were engaged on Halloween and were married before the year was out. Prior to his passing, they celebrated sixty-six years of marriage.
In 1963 Alvin and Ruth brought their four children to Boulder, Colorado where she worked as a loving mother and at times at Pizza Oven in south Boulder and as a data entry operator at NEODATA.
In later years, Alvin and Ruth traveled to numerous places within the United States and around the world, though home was always their favorite place. Ruth lived happily in Longmont, Colorado for the remaining twelve years of her life.
Preceded in death by Alvin and her precious grandson Joshua, she leaves behind her daughter Jane and husband Andrew Poole, her son Joe and wife Cle Ella (Mattox), her son John and wife Janie (Blair), and her son Jim and wife Susan (Carter), as well as eighteen grandchildren and their spouses, forty-two great-grandchildren, and one precious great-great-grandchild.
She is the last of her siblings and of her in-laws to leave us. Her spirit was and remains a bright light for all of us. Greatly loved and dearly missed, we look forward to seeing her again when the roll is called up Yonder.
A graveside service for Ruth will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3016 Kalmia Ave, Boulder, CO 80301.
