Sammie Lynn Kinder

After casting a wide net of friends and loved ones over a life well-traveled and well lived, Sammie quickly passed away on July 19, 2026 from an accidental fall in the home.

She was born Brenda Lynn Saling in Bremerton, WA to Shirley and Jerry Saling. Adopted by her step father, John Lane, Brenda Lane lived the life of a Navy family. After stints in Bremerton, San Diego, Jacksonville, and Norfolk, the family came back to Washington where she finished high school at South Kitsap High.

Divorced after a brief marriage to Arthur McKay, Brenda Lynn (Saling, Lane) McKay began her adult life adventures with a season in Lake Tahoe and then on the Winter Park, CO. Somewhere in there, she became known by the name her grandfather always called her, and officially changed her name to Sammie. Sammie met Jeff Kinder while designing and manufacturing the logo and sand blasted redwood sign for the Crooked Creek Saloon in Fraser, CO. 50 years later, many of Sammie’s redwood signs still hang throughout Winter Park, Fraser and the western slope of Colorado. Her creativity was boundless. Graphics and sign making talents blossomed into pottery, metal smithing/welding, ornaments, jewelry, painting, decorating and design. Many of you may have a Sammie Kinder creation in your lives.

Jeff and Sammie (Brenda) Lynn (Saling, Lane, McKay) Kinder were married in Tabernash, CO in 1979 and loved and supported each other and their two children for nearly 47 years.

Since leaving Winter Park, Jeff and Sammie have lived in Tucson, AZ, Overland Park, KS, Temple City, CA, Pleasanton, CA, Toronto, ON, Olney, MD, Golden, CO, Longmont, CO and finally Louisville, CO. Wonderful friends and memories come from each of those places.

Sammie is survived by her husband Jeffrey Kinder, daughter Andrea Kinder, and son Brodie Kinder, as well as her sisters Julie Hill and Kelly Dubose and brother Mark Lane.
