After an exceptionally nice day Sandy Lillie unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday January 15th 2020. She was at home with her loving husband and daughter. Born in Salt Lake City on June 27th 1941, Sandy spent much of her youth growing up in Europe, where she gained a broad perspective for people of all cultures and beliefs.
Sandy went to Colorado College at the age of 17, where she majored in music, presenting a piece on Gregorian music to the music professors while she was an undergraduate. She, along with her first husband and friend, David Lillie, became one of the longest serving member of CC's Tour Choir, where she sang tenor. She also played the French horn and piano.
Sandy went on to receive her teaching degree from CU, and she later went on to work at IBM as the first woman to work in the slurry room for tape manufacturing, and then progressing to become a programmer.
At the age of 55, she found her real passion when she went back to school to become an acupuncturist and subsequently founded and served as the President of the Institute of Taoist Education and Acupuncture (ITEA) in Colorado. ITEA is the only pure classical five element acupuncture school in the western United States offering a masters degree. ITEA is currently run by Sandy's dear friend and colleague, Hilary Skellon.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Joe White. She is the mother of Vanessa Lillie, Angie Smith (Lillie) (d. 2016) and Dana Lillie; and grandmother to Kai, Kira, Aricka, Danny and Wyatt.
The family have asked that, in lieu of flowers or gifts, please send donations to help ITEA continue the mission set in place by Sandy. Please contact Kathy at [email protected]
All are welcome at the memorial. For planning purposes, if you wish to attend, please contact Kathy on the above email address, or call the school at 720 890 892
