Sharon Nelson

Sharon was born on November 3, 1941 to Floyd and Leita Clegg in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. She earned her degree in elementary education from Western State University. Sharon married Delbert David Nelson on March 24, 1962. They moved to Boulder, CO, in 1968 where Sharon touched the lives of countless children as a substitute teacher and parent volunteer. Sharon and Del had three children: Carey Nelson McClure (Andy McClure) of Erie, CO, Chad Nelson (Linda Nelson) of Longmont, CO, and Curt Nelson (Laurinda Nelson) of Superior, CO. They had eight grandchildren: Whitney, Haley and Casey McClure; Hamilton and Sophie Nelson; and Connor, Bennett and McKenzie Nelson. Sharon was an active member of 1st Presbyterian Church of Boulder for nearly 30 years where she participated in many ministries including the Deacons’ Closet. Sharon also dedicated many years of service to Young Life ministries as a committee member and staff supporter.

Sharon is survived by two sisters, Beverly Clegg Hertler (Bill Hertler) and Marcia Clegg Hope (Jerry Hope), as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Del.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 1st Presbyterian Church of Boulder, 1820 15th Street, Boulder, CO 80302. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to 1st Presbyterian Church of Boulder or Hospice of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, 1855 Plaza Drive, Louisville, CO 80027.
