Shirley was born on August 8, 1931 in Chillicothe, Missouri to Vernon Hale and Minnie Glennys (Johnson) Trumbo. She grew up in Breckenridge, Missouri and moved to Boulder, Colorado with her father and two sisters in 1946.
Prior to her graduation from Boulder High School in 1949, she worked at Kresge's Department Store and started with the First National Bank in Boulder on May 23, 1949. She retired June 7, 1991 with almost 42 years of service.
She met her husband at The Mammoth Roller Skating Rink in Denver, Colorado, in 1951. She married James Randall Pinkston (Pinky) on March 29, 1952 at Evangelical United Brethren Church on Broadway in Boulder, Colorado. The building is now part of the University of Colorado.
Shirley and Pinky were big square dancers. She loved to sew, crochet, cross-stitch, embroider, paint designs on fabric, knit, and make the most adorable cloth bears you have ever seen. Her little bears have landed in Russia, Japan and Canada. She became interested in pouring, firing and painting her own ceramic designs at her winter home in Sun City, Arizona. There are some beautiful southwestern ceramic pieces she painted that decorate their Arizona home.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Randall of Boulder, Colorado. She is also survived by her daughter, Roxana Madrid and her husband Ron of Berthoud, Colorado, her son Bruce Pinkston of Big Lake, Alaska, her grandson Justin Madrid (Jami) of Johnstown, Colorado, her granddaughter Erica Madrid (Amy) of Aurora, Colorado, great-grandsons Marshall and Corbin Madrid.
