Stan Jozwiak passed away January 11, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born in Glen Cove, New York on October 14, 1952, to Brigid and Stanley Jozwiak. He grew up in Syosset, New York with his sisters Rose and Terry, his brother Kevin, and with a large extended family. Stan spent summers on the baseball field and fishing on the Long Island Sound. He attended New York State University at Fredonia where he played soccer (a goalkeeper) and at University of Minnesota for a Master's in Latin American history.
Stan came to Boulder early in 1978, where he quickly became involved in the local soccer community. In addition to playing soccer, Stan held a national soccer coaching license. He was an early coach for Boulder Junior Soccer and helped to establish F.C. Boulder. The school district was just beginning to add soccer, starting first with the middle schools, then the high school. He was hired in 1981 to head up the first boys and girl’s soccer at Fairview High School, where he also taught social studies. He coached 34 seasons for the boy's program. Stan retired from teaching in 2010 and coaching in 2014.
Stan met Joan Bleacher in 1978 and they were married in 1983. They have three sons, Dan, Andy, and Tim Jozwiak. Stan was very involved in coaching soccer and basketball teams throughout the boy’s youth. All three sons attended Fairview High School, where they learned how respected, funny, and well-liked their dad was as a teacher. Stan was immensely proud that all three boys played soccer and felt it was truly an honor to be their high school coach.
In Stan's later years he developed dementia. He still played soccer himself with the amazing Geezer group. Stan also enjoyed walking his dog, Archie, and was well known in the neighborhood.
Stan was usually one of the most liked people in any room he was in. His sense of humor and easy-going nature always made for a good time. He left a positive impact on many lives that he touched. His life was well lived.
Stan is survived by his wife, his three sons, and three grandchildren (Theodore, Nora and Juniper). A funeral mass will be held Friday, January 19 at 2 pm at St. Thomas Acquinas Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
