

Growing up, she attended Casey Jr. High and Boulder High School, graduating in 1968. Later she worked her way through Metro State majoring in Business Teacher Education. During the summer of 1971 she met Peter Johnson, and they were married on April 7, 1973. She obtained her degree in 1974.
The '74-'75 school year was spent on the Navajo Reservation at the Kayenta, AZ Presbyterian Church. Peter and Sue taught released time Christian education classes in the Kayenta and Dennehotso BIA boarding schools. Sue was church secretary, and Peter was the maintenance man.
In 1975 they returned to Boulder and Sue began a career with CDC in Longmont. During that time, she obtained a Master's degree from CSU. When Peter graduated from CU they went to Missouri for work but quickly returned to Colorado. Sue resumed her career at CDC teaching accounting.
Her favorite pastimes were painting classes with friends, visiting Denver Botanic Gardens, gardening at home, and Hawaii trips. She obtained her private pilot’s license in 1987. Sue is probably the only teacher to be bitten by a tiger at school.
She is survived by her husband Peter after 52 years together, her sister Cindy (Kit) Kittinger, and brother Doug (Linda) Lieber of Lone Tree. Sue was predeceased by her parents.
Memorial Service September 26, 2025, 11:00 AM at Berthoud Family Church, 3982 Nations Way, Berthoud, CO. There will be a reception following the service.
