The remarkable and extraordinarily ornery, Veda Anne Prescott, was bestowed to this world on January 10, 1948 in Houston, Texas.
Veda was a precocious child, who enjoyed time by the water and enjoyed just being outdoors. She was the eldest child to mother, Jimmie Lois White and father, Glen Seales Goodman. Veda had two younger brothers; Glenn the middle child, eventually followed by Rodney. Brother, Glenn, described Veda as a shining light; someone that would lighten your darkest days and guide you through your troubles; she was always an optimistic soul that continuously put everyone’s troubles before her own. She was a dependable soul that would listen, without judgement, and lovingly do her best to help.
As Veda blossomed into a young woman, she learned to ride horses; eventually learning the sport of hunter jumper. She also enjoyed water skiing at a local lake close to her home. When sitting around and talking about the lake Veda grew up by, she once reminisced, laughing, about the “olden days,” and how she and the ladies would rub on baby oil and use car sunshades to suntan. She often laughed at the silliness of it all.
In 1970, She also enjoyed the college lifestyle and the partying that came with it, but never failing to work hard and she went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree at Sam Houston State University. Following this, Veda continued to further her education and earned her Master’s Degree at University of Houston in 1973.
Immediately following, Veda set her sights even higher - onto the majestic rocky mountain range that makes up beautiful Colorado. While in Colorado, Veda acquired property in Conifer and started building her dream home, surrounded by the mountains and trees she so loved. In 1990, Veda was hired at StorageTek where she remained a devoted technical writer until an eventual buyout. Following the buyouts of StorageTek by Sun; quickly followed by Oracle; there, Veda remained until her retirement in 2017.
When not working, Veda spent time helping raise her husband’s first child, Justin Davies, who she loved as her own as well. In 1985, Veda gave birth to her first child; an energetic and tender-souled son she named Brandon Prescott Davies. Veda so loved being a mother and seemed to make it her soul purpose in life. Three years later in 1988, Veda gave birth to a head-strong and stubborn-as-herself, daughter she named Tamara Alycia Lord (née Davies). In 1998, Veda and her bouncing brood moved to Superior, finally finding a place to call home. Veda spent her days working hard, while also playing family chef; homemaker; hockey/soccer mom; and Taxi driver for all of the activities her energetic children wanted to do. As a mother, Veda put her children’s needs and wants always above her own; making sure their home was filled with immeasurable love and support.
In 2001, in a heartbreaking and unexpected tragedy, Veda lost her beloved son, Brandon. Despite the tremendous loss and unimaginable pain, she turned her grief into an opportunity to spread her love for her family, friends, and community.
Veda loved and supported her daughter, helping put her through University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in the same area of study as her mother, following in Veda’s footsteps. When Veda’s daughter eventually married in 2015, she invited her son-in-law, Steven Lord, and his young son, Tyler Lord, into her loving arms and treated them as family every step of the way.
Veda helped mentor and care for the 3rd grade class at her church, Calvary Bible in Boulder. She would also help greet on Sundays, along with her grandson, Ty. Veda had an unwavering faith, which helped guide her throughout life and shared what she could with those around her. Veda’s faith gave her peace in her final days and having those around her share in her beliefs, meant the world to her.
Veda volunteered as a foster parent for many years at the Boulder Humane Society. Veda, her son, and daughter brought numerous dogs, cats, and rabbits home to foster, even though it meant her children wanted to keep every single one brought home. On a very few occasions, Veda caved.
Veda was a woman that loved and she loved hard; everything she did, she did for others, even at the expense of herself. Veda loved her family; she loved her friends and all those she always called her family; she loved her community and her neighbors; she loved her sister Sarah - of whom Veda claimed she was always the favorite daughter; she loved double-shot Americanos from Nordstroms; she loved God, reading the Bible, and sharing His words; she loved Fall in Colorado and the changing of leaves; she loved hiking and long walks; Veda loved listening to the ocean waves in Texas and walking through the sand; she loves horses and riding them; she loved reading books on her Kindle and sitting on her porch swing; she loved watching horrible B-rated horror movies with her family and then laughing at why they were so bad; she loved watching Hallmark Christmas movies and snuggling up by the fire during wintertime; she loved the smell and sound of rain; she loved to listen to her daughter play piano; Veda loved her family and making sure they had everything they needed and wanted; she loved potlucks and getting together with her friemly (friend/family); she loved animals; Veda loved talking politics, even to the dismay of many of those around her; Veda loved her neighbors and making sure everyone was okay; she loved blowing bubbles with her gum, much to the annoyance of Steven and Tyler; Veda loved sharing chocolate bananas with her grandbaby; she loved home cooked meals; she loved cuddle time with her adult daughter and playing with her hair; she loved watching everyone open presents on Christmas day and watching classic Christmas movies; she loved spoiling everyone on their birthdays and setting up large displays with cakes and presents; she loved eating Fireballs and Blow Pops in bed, and giggling when she was found out; Veda loved laughter, and quick wit, and a good joke; she loved going to Estes Park and roaming the shops; she loved Cabins in wintertime and watching the river; she loved going to church and listening to the hymns; she loved the old movie Gidget and even acquired a nickname from it; Veda enjoyed listening to oldies and singing along to songs with her daughter; Veda loved life and making memories with everyone she could.
Veda was a one of a kind angel, that will be tremendously missed by all of the lives she touched. Despite the battles she faced throughout her life, and especially in her last few years on this Earth, she left this world how she lived: beautifully, selflessly thinking of everyone else, and full of everlasting transcendent love.
