It’s with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Vickie Lynn Martin. She was born in Liberal Kansas on March 18,1953 and called home November 2, 2024. Vickie was raised in Boulder Colorado, she attended Crestview Elementary, Centennial jr High and Boulder High School. Vickie visited her grandparents Archie and Virginia Scott during summers where she learned how to farm the family land from her grandfather and how to cook and sew from grandmother. She met her first husband Juvenal Pinedo in liberal. They had one child, Julia. Vickie and Juvenal split when Julia was about 6 months old. The family went back to Boulder where Vickie met Wesley Henderson and spent several years together raising Julia and Cale, Wes’s son. Vickie helped raise Cale and thought of him as her own. Even though Wes and Vickie did not stay together they remained the best of friends and were always there for each other and the kids. Vickie raised Julia in Boulder and worked at NCAR for several years, she then worked at Boulder Community hospital for 27 years and ran the print shop there until it closed. She worked endlessly to provide for Julia and make sure everyone of Julias friends had a warm meal and a trusted adult to confide in. She spent many weekends taking teenagers camping, windsurfing, sailing and fishing. Vickie was loved by many and took anyone into her home that needed a warm meal. Vickie’s pride and joy was her grandchildren, Tyler, Seth, Tino, Danielle and the fur grandbabies. Vickie thrived to be the best grandma her grandchildren could ask for, she always made sure to spoil them with love, care and amazing cooking/baking. She spent many hours teaching them things such as gardening, cooking, baking, and ways of life that helped shape the people they are today.
Vickie’s grandchildren weren’t just the ones that she biologically had, everyone was welcome in her home, such as friends of her grandchildren, everyone was blessed to call her grandma. She loved and was loved by so many!
During retirement, She met Richard Maki and moved to Walden Colorado where she was living her best life with him. She worked as an election judge when needed and at the local museum in Walden. She enjoyed helping fundraise for the museum participating in the local cribbage tournaments and competing in the local Christmas decoration contest. She is survived by her Life partner Richard Maki and family, Her mother Dolly Martin, Her daughter Julia Long and her husband Danny Long, as well as her grandchildren, Tyler Long, Seth Long, Danielle Long and many others who called her grandma Vickie. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Archie and Virginia Scott, her father John R Martin Sr, a brother John R Martin Jr , her sister Karen Martin and grandson Tino Espinoza-Long.
