Vincent Ting, of Boulder, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his sleep and among family on October 6, 2016. A memorial service will be held at Crist Funeral Home Services on Saturday, October 15th from 11 to 1pm with Pastor Guo officiating and time for a reception and light lunch.
Vincent was born in Fujain, China on May 3, 1936, and emigrated to Taiwan in 1946. After graduating with a BA in Chemistry from Tung-Hai University in Taiwan, he served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Taiwanese army. In 1964, Vincent moved to the United States to continue his education. He earned a Masters in Organic Chemistry from New Mexico State in Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1966, where he also married his wife of fifty years, May Shao. After graduation, the couple moved to Port Washington, Wisconsin where Vince worked for Freeman Chemical and he and May welcomed their first child, GG Ting. Soon, the family moved to Fargo, North Dakota where Vincent earned his PhD in Polymer and Coating Chemistry from North Dakota State. The family soon moved to Strongsville, Ohio where Vincent worked for Glidden-Durkee, and then finally, in 1978, they landed in Boulder, Colorado where Vincent worked for IBM and Lexmark and they welcomed their second child, Christina Shao. Vincent Ting is credited with at least 100 patents related to polymerization processes, with useful applications such as a three-piece coating for aluminum drinking cans, paint polymers, and print toner. Vincent was well respected as a team-player by his peers and earned many awards for his innovative spirit. For fifty years, he participated as a member of the American Chemical Society. Even in his retirement, Vincent didn't stop innovating. In addition to creating new flavors in the kitchen at home, he and two friends, Ken and Dennis, started a company—High’n’Dry Fishing Products—to develop the highest quality gel, liquid, and powder fly fishing floatants.
In addition to his passion for his work, Vincent loved fly fishing, volunteering with wildlife services, traveling, table tennis, and the outdoors. But even more than these passions, he loved his family, friends, and his evangelical Christian Church. He always made time to get everyone to eat, laugh, smile and enjoy life. Vince is preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Vince is survived by his loving wife May Shao Ting, who he married in 1966; older brother Wen Ting of Detroit, Michigan; devoted son GG Ting and his wife, Christie; beautiful daughter Christina Shao and her boyfriend, Nathan Slaga, who he considered a loyal second son; and two step-grandsons Keeton and Corran. Arrangements under the direction of Crist Mortuary, Boulder, CO.
