In 1955 they moved to Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where their daughter Martha was born in 1958. In 1960 they moved to the University of California at Berkeley. In 1962 they moved to Purdue University, in West Lafayette, Indiana, where their son David was born in 1965. In 1966 they moved to the University of Colorado at Boulder, where they remained for the past 52 years, with the exception of a one-year fellowship in Oxford, England in 1972. Virginia and Al celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2017, with a large extended family reunion in Boulder.
Virginia worked for the Boulder County Health Department as a school nurse’s aide for seventeen years. She retired in 1992. She enjoyed hiking in the Colorado mountains and traveling. Virginia had a passion for music. She played both violin and piano, and sang in various choirs in the different locations that they lived.
