Virginia was born in Boone County, Iowa, the daughter of Bertha Heldt Stamp and Carl D. Stamp. In 1936, the Stamp family came to Colorado and settled in different areas of Boulder County, Colorado.
Virginia graduated from Longmont High School in 1947. After graduation, she was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper in the Longmont Realty and Insurance office.
After being introduced on a blind date and subsequent courtship, Virginia married Raymore Douglas “Bud” Walcher in Longmont, Colorado on June 19, 1949. While Bud was attending the University of Colorado, they resided in Boulder. They moved to several different regions in the western and southern states due to Bud being employed as an oil field geologist. Bud and Virginia settled in Grand Junction, Colorado with their four children – Raymore Douglas (Doug) Walcher, Jr., Brad, Jaleen and David. After her four children were in school in Grand Junction, she enrolled in Mesa College, and as an honor student, received her associate degree in accounting in 1968.
In 1969, the family moved to Arvada, Colorado, where Virginia was employed by the Colorado Department of Administration. After several years, she decided to obtain her accounting degree while still working full-time and graduated with that degree in 1979 from Metro State College. She retired in 1991 as the Budget Administrator for the Colorado Division of Wildlife. In 1997, Bud and Virginia moved back to Grand Junction where Bud became a gentleman farmer, and the couple traveled extensively. After Bud’s death in 2010, Virginia moved back to the Denver area to be near her family.
Virginia was a member of the Association for Women Accountants, the Investment Club and the National Association of Fiscal Managers. As a member of several different churches throughout her adult life, she was active in children’s programs, choir, church libraries, committees, finance, bible study, and wrote and published daily devotions. She also loved to play pinochle and started an afternoon group at Heather Gardens in Aurora, Colorado.
Virginia is survived by Brad (Petra) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jaleen Edwards (Glenn) of Golden, Colorado, and David (Linda) of Aurora, Colorado as well as seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Virginia’s parents (Bertha and Carl), her husband Bud, son Doug, two sisters (Margaret and Pauline), two brothers (Norman and Robert “Bob”) and one grandchild (David) preceded her in death.
Virginia’s ashes will be placed near Bud and Doug in the Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Boulder at a date to be determined. The family requests remembrances be made in the form of a donation to a charity of your choice in memory of Virginia Walcher.
