It is with both sadness and joy that the children of Wilmer (Willie) Schweikert announce the passing of their father on Friday, August 10th at the age of 90. Willie is now with his Lord in Heaven and forever together with Betty, his wife of 62 years, whom he missed dearly since her passing several years ago.
Born and raised in central Nebraska, Willie entered the army and served in Korea in a mortar platoon supporting fellow soldiers on the front lines. He met Betty after returning home, whereupon they fell in love and were soon married. In 1963, they moved their family to Boulder, CO, where Willie worked until retirement as a maintenance supervisor at the National Bureau of Standards.
Willie and Betty loved to camp and travel. Together, they had visited all 50 states, Hawaii being their favorite destination. Willie was active in his kids' lives as scoutmaster, baseball coach, camping & fishing mentor, and dad. A true servant at heart, he faithfully served their church in many ways.
Willie was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents, and two brothers. He is survived by his sister, Verna (husband, Harold Zmek); his three children, Steve (wife, Anne); Ron; and Sharon (husband, Bart Campbell); six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will host visitation with friends on Friday, Aug 17th, 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, CO, 80301. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, Aug 18th at Crist and will be presided over by their pastor, Bob Franz.
Memorial donations may be made in Willie's name to South Broadway Church of the Nazarene, 300 S. Broadway, Boulder, CO 80303.
