

Born in Wauchula, Florida August 5, 1924. Graduated from Bradenton High School in 1942 and from Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. Worked as a surgical nurse at the Miami Beach Veterans Hospital at its beginning. Married Ralph David Clark in 1946 and had two daughters Susanne and Linda. After staying at home to raise her daughters, she returned to Jackson Memorial Hospital as a surgical nurse and became the “Night Shift” operating room supervisor for 20 years, before retiring in 1986.
After Ralph passed in 1980, she married Warren J. Bullis in 1984. They moved to Bainbridge Island, WA in 1991. She and Warren were active members of North Kitsap Baptist Church and the Gideon’s Auxiliary of Poulsbo, WA and involved grandparents to Paul De Barros and Eric De Barros. She was deeply loved and pampered by Warren. Adele would often say how she loved the Northwest and the happy life she and Warren had created. She was a devoted and loving grandma to Steve Godwin and Laura Godwin as well.
Adele lived at Freedom Village in Bradenton, Florida since 2014 where she enjoyed special friendships and a caring staff. Adele was proud to serve as the unofficial “Freedom Village Admissions Ambassador” and her stylish apartment will live on as a model for prospective residents to see how beautiful life can be in Assisted Living.
Adele is preceded in death by her parents, Abram Gay and Gussie Griffiths Gay; her husbands, Ralph David Clark, and Warren J Bullis; her sister, Mary McCloskey Pope, and her brother, Abram “Sonny” Gay, Jr. She is survived by half-siblings, Mamie Henson, Phyllis Shearer, and James Elbert Gay; her daughters, Susanne Clark Godwin (Ray Godwin) and Linda Clark De Barros (Rick De Barros). Grandchildren, Steven R. Godwin (Ben Wash), Laura Godwin, Eric De Barros (Julia De Barros), Paul De Barros (Michelle De Barros), and great-grandson, Camilo Alexander De Barros. Nephew Paul McCloskey (Irina McCloskey) and Niece Pat McCloskey Wilson (Bob Wilson, deceased). Cousins Frank Buskirk (Emily Buskirk) and Richard Buskirk (Mary Ellen Buskirk) along with relatives and dear friends, especially in the last years in Assisted Living, Dee Smith.
Adele requested no service, flowers, or tears, only joy and happiness, because she is dancing with Warren in heaven and celebrating with those who passed on before her. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made in Adele’s name to Freedom Village Memorial Scholarship Fund, 6406 21st Avenue West, Bradenton, FL 34209, Attn: Scholarship Fund.
