
Charles Nathan Shevlin, 95, of Bradenton, FL, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025. Born on December 25, 1929, in Philadelphia, PA, to Harvey and Rose Shevlin, Charles grew up in South Philadelphia and graduated from Bok High School.
After high school, Charles proudly served his country while in the U.S. Navy aboard an aircraft carrier. Following his service, he returned home and founded Gainor Home Improvement Co. with his mother and sister, Mildred, eventually becoming the company’s president and owner. Located on Kensington Avenue in Philadelphia, Charles was a dedicated and hardworking businessman, often putting in long hours to ensure its success. His contributions to the home improvement industry were recognized with the
“Home Improvement Salesman of the Year” award, presented by the Mayor of Philly. He also shared his expertise through a radio show focused on his profession.
In 1960, Charles met the love of his life, Bernice Trembelas, in Philadelphia. The couple married and shared over 64 years of devoted partnership. In 1989, Charles retired at the age of 60, and he and Bernice moved to Siesta Key, FL, to enjoy their well-deserved retirement.
Charles was a man of many passions, including boxing, westerns, automobiles, poker, and baseball. He even coached Little League and found joy in mentoring young athletes and family members alike. A generous and charitable man, he supported numerous causes throughout his life.
Charles leaves behind his beloved wife, Bernice; three sons, Barry (Sherri), Michael, and Martin (Joyce); his cherished grandchildren, Blair, Bryana, Maxine, AJ (Lindsay), Jordan, and Daniel; and four great-grandchildren. His legacy of love, dedication, generosity, and kindness will be treasured by all whose lives he touched.
