Daniel Ray Kuhner

Daniel Ray Kuhner, 84, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on May 3, 2026. He died peacefully in his sleep at home, surrounded by his beloved wife, Alice, and his daughter, Penny. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on February 24, 1942, Daniel was a cherished presence in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Daniel graduated from Portsmouth High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Education from Morehead State University, followed by a master’s degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He devoted his professional life to education, serving with Minford Local School District in Minford, Ohio, and he also proudly served as an Army veteran.

On June 27, 1979, Daniel married Alice Kuhner, and together they built a life rooted in love and family. He is survived by his children Vickie Bach, Penny Stearns, and Kenny Kuhner (Heidi); his grandchildren Brandon Bach (Maggie), Raeshele Ricks, Andrew Ricks, Ben Spicer, Adam Brown (Tierra), and Hannah Stearns; seven great-grandchildren; and his step brother Dave Wisner. He was preceded in death by two children, Mistie Spicer and Bill Kuhner.

Daniel found joy in the everyday moments that brought people together. A devoted Ohio State Buckeye fan and Cincinnati Bengal fan, he also valued discipline and routine, first as a jogger and later—when jogging was no longer possible—as a daily swimmer who faithfully completed his laps rain or shine. He was an avid golfer, loved to play cards, and if there was a game of Texas Hold’em, he was there. He also loved dogs, and his affection for them reflected the steady warmth he offered so freely to others.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge, where he enjoyed fellowship and community. To those closest to him, he was lovingly known as the great Papa—a title that spoke to the deep bond he shared with his family and the lasting imprint of his care.

Daniel was well loved and will be missed by us all! A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation towards the Alzheimer's foundation.
