Don was born July 1, 1929 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954, when he was honorably
discharged. He married the love of his life, Grace E. Planasch, and they moved to their home in Bradenton, Florida in 1955 where they lived until she passed in January of 2003. In 2005, Don relocated to Winter Haven.
He retired as supervisor from the Amax Phosphate Co. when he was 55 years old. He was always happiest, though, when he was doing odd jobs or remodeling their home. He also loved working in his yard.
Don is survived by his daughters Sherrie Gosling and husband Woody of Winter Haven, Debbie Apple and Husband Ken of Bradenton, and Kim Rutherford and her husband Brad of Winter Haven, by 6 grandchildren--David Dimond, Sara Garcia, Nikki Jordan, Chris Apple, Craig Rutherford and Carrie Vadino, and 9 great-grandchildren and many extended family members.
A celebration of life service will be held at Manasota Funeral Home, 1221 53rd Avenue, East in Bradenton, on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 12:00 noon. Friends and family are invited after the services to join the family for refreshments and to share your memory of Don at the Heritage Harbour Recreation Center, located off State Route 64.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the American Cancer Society (lymphoma) (www.cancer.org/donate) or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (www.nationalmssociety.org/donate) in his memory.
