Edna Janette Huffman of Parrish, Florida passed away on June 29th, 2026 at the age of 86. Edna was born on February 18th, 1940 in a log cabin in Pikeville, TN where she grew up on a farm in a beautiful Tennessee valley. Edna had fond memories of living on the Farm, despite no electricity or indoor plumbing. Food was preserved by smokehouse and a cold cellar. Edna attended a one room schoolhouse which meant when you advanced a grade, you moved to a different corner of the room. Edna learned to ride horses and care for farm animals in the early years. At the age of 9, her parents sold the farm and moved west to Avenal, California due to the lure of good wages in the oil fields of central California. It was there in the 4th grade that she met the future love of her life, Jesse Huffman. They were ultimately married for 67 years. Edna graduated valedictorian from Avenal High School in 1957 and then attended nursing school in San Jose, CA, obtaining her nursing diploma in 1960. Edna and Jesse initially eloped in 1959 but they didn’t get very far as their car broke down not too far out of town. They had to call Edna’s mom to come pick them up (imagine making that call!). This lead soon thereafter to a church wedding in Hanford, CA with their parents in attendance. Edna had a deeply impactful career as a nurse in a variety of roles but her specialty was as a labor and delivery nurse. She delivered thousands of babies over the years. Edna worked well into her 70’s also, giving shots at flu clinics as she traveled all over Northern California until 2018. A significant legacy of Edna’s is the fact all 3 of her daughters became healthcare professionals as their chosen career and they too have dedicated decades of their lives in the care of others. In 2021, Jesse and Edna moved to Parrish, FL to begin a new adventure of living in the sunshine state. Edna was a devoted member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Parrish, FL and a very talented gardener. In every residence over the decades, her yard was adorned with beautiful flowers and greenery that was the envy of her neighbors. Edna was preceded in death by her father (Columbus Gordon Scarborough), her mother (Mary Talitha Webb) and her brother (Billy Earnest Scarborough). Edna is survived by her husband (Jesse Orval Huffman) and three daughters; Kerrie Calderon (Jose), Jennifer Hopkins, and Amy MacIsaac (Alexander). Edna has 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Tidewell Hospice House in Parrish, FL for their loving care, comfort and creating a peaceful transition for Edna to meet the Lord. A Service will be scheduled at a later date. Internment will be at Manasota Memorial Park in Bradenton, FL.
