Jody Foltz, born on February 12, 1964, in Angola, Indiana to Jan and Gary Foltz, entered this world with an extra chromosome, being born with Down Syndrome. His journey began at home with his loving parents and three sisters, supported by grandparents and other close family members. Despite the challenges and frustrations that come with raising a child with Down Syndrome, the family found solace and strength in their faith, committing their lives to Jesus Christ. This foundation of church and prayer provided stability and guidance throughout Jody's 59-year journey, turning what some may view as a devastating situation into a true blessing for both family and friends.
Jody attended elementary school in Flint, Indiana, where he participated in the special education program. Continuing his education at Prairie Heights Middle School, where his father served as principal and his sisters also attended, Jody received valuable education and support through the special education program taught by Rhonda Knisely. With the skills he developed, Jody was able to attend Prairie Heights High School, where he formed numerous special relationships. The administration, teachers, and student body all played significant roles in his life. During high school, Jody happily assisted the custodial staff and worked in the cafeteria.
In 1984, the family relocated to Crystal River, Florida, where Jody became part of the Key Training Center, working as an assembler and taking great pride in his paycheck. In 2003, they moved again, settling in Bradenton, Florida, where Jody worked part-time at Tropicana and Taco Bell.
As Jody's health began to decline in 2019, he moved into a group home. Sadly, on December 20, 2023, due to severe health issues, Jody entered Tidewell Hospice House in Bradenton, where he passed away on December 27, 2023.
Jody found joy in life through simple pleasures such as watching TV, listening to music, dancing, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and being around people. Those who were fortunate enough to know Jody loved him dearly. His happy heart was infectious, as he bestowed nicknames upon people and delighted in their reactions. His reenactment of Three Stooges skits never failed to bring laughter, effortlessly brightening the lives of those around him.
Jody is now reunited with his loving grandparents, Carl and Marian Foltz of Orland, Indiana, and Gordon and Margaret Jacob of Bradenton, Florida. He is survived by his devoted parents, Gary and Jan Foltz of Bradenton, Florida, and his loving sisters: Traci (Todd) Saylor of Bradenton, Florida, Tari (John) Valdez of Austin, Texas, and Trudee (Scott) Mason of Crystal River, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to Tidewell Bradenton Hospice at tidewellfoundation.org/donate/ and Cortez Road Baptist Church, 4411 100th St. West, Bradenton, FL 34210.
