Joseph Martin McAllister Jr was born in Cascade, Iowa in 1928. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War on the USS DeHaven and USS April 1952 – December 1955. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the China Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with two stars. His dedication to service continued throughout his life as an active member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus. He worked as an electrician for Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for 32 years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Margaret I. McAllister of Palmetto, Florida, his son Timothy McAllister of Three Forks, Montana, his son Denis McAllister (Peggy) of Springville, Iowa, his daughters Kelly Johnson and Staci Vileta of Palmetto, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Joseph is predeceased by his parents, eight sisters, six brothers and one grandson. A beloved husband, father, grand father, great grandfather, and friend who his family and friends will greatly miss.
He will be interred in the Sarasota National Cemetery with military honors.
