He was born April 28, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and moved to Anna Maria Island in 1994 from Washington, D.C. He was a graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia and held various engineering and management positions with General Electric and was a Project Manager for the Electric Power Research Institute before retiring. He was a Life Fellow of the Electric Power Research Institute, authored more than 40 technical articles, and held 14 U.S. and foreign patents. He was a member of the Manatee Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
Survivors include his wife Dolores K. Porter, daughters Patti Stubbe and Carol Surdyke, and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Manasota Memorial Funeral Home, with Funeral Services to follow at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mote Marine Laboratory, 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota, Florida 34236.
