related to Alzheimer’s disease.
Luba is survived by her caring husband, Roman G. Knysh; her two sons, Roman Knysh (Kate) of
Alexandria, VA and Mark Knysh (Sarah) of Houston, TX; her five grandchildren, Mia, Roman, Joey,
Charlotte, and Matthew; her loving sister Maria Ferens and her brother Oleh Myskiw. She was
predeceased by her sister, Christina Myskiw in 1983.
Luba was born on April 28, 1947 in Kornburg, Germany to Michael and Daria Myskiw, a displaced
Ukrainian couple. Together they immigrated to the United States settling in Irvington, NJ, where Luba
enjoyed her happy childhood days. Shortly after marrying Roman G. Knysh of New York City on
February 3, 1968, they moved to Maryland where they became long time residents.
Luba graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s degree in 1969 and earned a Master’s
degree from Loyola College of Maryland in 1981. She started her professional career as a teacher, and with
changing interests, she obtained her CFP certificate in 1988 and started a new career with Aetna as a
financial planner.
Luba’s sons, Roman and Mark, quickly became a very important part of her life. Watching them play
lacrosse and skiing with them was a yearly highlight for her. Furthermore, she loved her daily three mile
walks, playing tennis, and going to the gym. She was also an avid reader who enjoyed travel and a good
hot cup of coffee. Her husband was especially grateful that she gladly accompanied him on his many business
trips, where they enjoyed meeting new people and experiencing new cultures.
Luba loved every day of the 51 years that she spent being married to Roman. Their mutual love for each other
and the shared joy of togetherness continues to be an inspiration to their family and friends. Luba was an
exceptional wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She cherished her family and lived each day to the fullest.
Luba will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 12th at 11AM at the Ukrainian Catholic National Shrine
of the Holy Family, 4250 Harewood Rd NE, Washington, D.C. 20017.
