Millicent passed away peacefully at home on November 26th, 2024 in Bradenton, Florida, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband of nearly 64 years, Dr. William A. MacCannell.
Also gone before were her parents, Helen Louise Munn and John Robertson Munn of Marshfield, PEI,
her brother, Roderick (Cheryl) Munn of Kentville, Nova Scotia, and her dear niece, Jennifer (Dave) Cayley of Ontario.
Millie is survived by her favorite (and only!) sister, Marguerite Melanson, and her three children, of whom she was very proud; Lynn (Paul Mitten) MacCannell of Newfoundland, Allen (Julia and little Max) of Ukraine, and Jane (Bobby) Idol of Florida, her niece who was like a daughter, Charlotte Melanson of Mississippi, and by her son-in-law Billy (Liza) Idol of Bradenton.
Millie was the much loved and loving grandmother of Christine (Bryan) Garner and was delighted by her two great-grandchildren, Cali and Cruz. She will be missed by cousins, family and the best of friends from around the U.S. and Canada. Millie also had a very close-knit group of neighbors, friends and care-givers who unceasingly showered her with love and support; she loved them one and all.
Millicent lived her life to the fullest. She grew up tall and strong on the family farm in Prince Edward Island. She learned how to do just about anything, including changing tractor tires and even how to skin a fox with her grandfather. She was as comfortable in that world as she would later be on 5th Ave. in New York City, near where she and Bill settled to work and raise their family in Rockland County, NY.
From childhood, Millicent was a voracious reader. She especially enjoyed real life murder stories and biographies from around the world. Millicent graduated with a BS. in Chemistry from Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS.
Millicent's career and creative contributions were wide and varied.
She managed her husband's public and private psychiatric practices. No small feat! She loved anything to do with business and was a marketing entrepreneur.
She was an inventor, fashion designer, realtor, and enjoyed running estate sales. She loved dancing, the arts, shopping, researching and supporting charities, animals of all kinds, and most of all spending time with her children and extended family.
She was very generous with her time and money, and always had a ready ear for anyone who needed her. She was kind, pragmatic, and treated everyone the same, regardless of where they were in life.
We will all miss Millie's enthusiasm, humor, keen sense of the ridiculous, and pure love of living. We will all remember Millie’s flaming red hair and her huge, beautiful smile! As she would often quote “God's in His Heaven, All’s Right with the World".
