Minnette Taber Fitts, of Bradenton, Fl formerly of New Hartford, NY passed away at the age of 96 peacefully on Monday, February 15, 2021 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born April 15, 1924 in Ira, NY to William & Isabelle (Warren) Taber. Coming from a large family of 13 she said she was never bored growing up. She was employed by General Electric Company and worked her way up to supervisor. She also met the love of her life Fred Earl Fitts Jr. there. They married June 5, 1948 and she stated that was the proudest moment of her life. Minnette was a loving and dedicated Mother to 6, Mother-in-Law and Grandmother to 13 Grandchildren and Great Grandmother to 11. Throughout her life she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In her earlier days she liked going to the camp they built on Kayuta Lake in NY. She always enjoyed traveling to see her several sisters and brothers. She also worked at Doyle Knowers until she retired which gave her time to help with her grandchildren. Minnette enjoyed bowling and was on a league for several years and received a trophy she was proud of. She had a passion for dancing, writing poetry and musical lyrics throughout the years and was good at it. Music was something she enjoyed on the daily. Her favorite song was “Let me call you sweetheart” by Bing Crosby. She had a love of reading which kept her busy. Archery was a favorite past time. She loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends throughout her life. Taking care of her grandchildren she had said proved to be the most rewarding out of everything she did. Her words of wisdom, beautiful smile, kind spirit and gentle touch will be missed by many. However, the music had her tapping her toes all the way to heaven. Minnette was such a wonderful cheerful person.I enjoyed my time spent with her giving her perms and doing her hair. We had long chats while eating our Werther's Butterscotch candies she had quite a sweet tooth.
She will be missed.

My mother was the cream of the crop, she would look at life as a adventure and never would talk bad about others. If her kids did she would explain things in only a way a mother can about real life. My mother had her hands full with 6 kids and also with a husband who traveled for his job and even uprooted us all to another state, put extra hardship on Mom.. She never complained but said you boys have chores to do and we did them . My Mom would tell me of times when she was a little girl on her parents farm and also about their animals and she loved horses. She knew I loved the outdoors and supported me in being a camping/ hunter and outdoors person. I worked at a young age and one of my jobs was a being a paperboy and had 60 customers on my route. My Mom when I got sick delivered my papers for me, she was the best. I also mowed lawns and my Mom would tell her friends to hire me... Awesome Mom that helped me make money in many jobs, she would take me to dairy farm to work and then when Grocery store was hiring she got me job when I was 16 there... Mom would take me to a little diner called Pigley Wiggley after doctor or denist appointments to get the best hot dogs ever. Mom like to laugh and make things fun , she started cutting our hair and I was first up and she was not sure how to use clippers so when she did first pass on top of my head I heard a bad noise and then my mother was laughing then went off to get something.. My Mom took elmers glue and tried to glue my hair back on that she gouge out.. She couldn't stop laughing , so I washed out hair and came back and told her cut me bald and we both laughed about it... Oh Mom you were so much fun to be around with your stories about your family and about my Dad .... Memories that will never be forgotten.... When I left for military she cried and I told her , I will be Ok Mom and they will shave my head again LOL... Mom wrote me at all military duty stations with such great stories of home. Love you MOM ...

When I was young I had many health problems, severe allergies and orthodontic surgeries. My Mom would have to pull me out of school and take me to all of the appointments necessary to resolve my ongoing issues. After these appointments she would always take me somewhere for lunch and some Mom-child time. It always made me feel important and cared for. She heaped this same personal touch on all of my brothers and sisters as well. I also remember how she would take us all clothes shopping before the start of a new school year. It was never easy for her because all we wanted to do is be obnoxious and fight with one another. My parents bought a travel trailer when we were young and we spent summer vacations as a family in it. We would go fishing and swimming by day and make smores over the campfire at night. We would vacation at many of the Adirondacks Park Lakes and Family Theme Parks as well as the Thousand Islands and St. Lawrence River. Our Mom and Dad would make us Banana Splits every Sunday night, it was hard to make a half gallon of Neapolitan Ice Cream stretch to eight people. We would all sit in the living room to eat our ice cream and watch the Ed Sullivan Show. There is to many great memories to record here but, I just want all to know that my mother lived up to the title of being one of the Greatest Generation! I will always Remember and Love You Mom.
