Natalie Tropiano, of Bradenton, Florida, and Buchanan, New York, beloved wife of Joseph V. Tropiano, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on February 2. She was 90.
Born December 21, 1931, in Peekskill, New York, Natalie was the daughter of John Colangelo and Maria DeThomasis. She graduated from Peekskill High School in 1949.
Soon after, she met her husband, Joseph (Joe) Tropiano of Verplanck, New York, and after he returned from his service in the US Navy, they married in 1956. They raised their three sons Michael, Joseph and Stephen in Verplanck and then in Buchanan, where they were active members of the community for 47 years.
As a young woman, Natalie worked at Metropolitan Life in New York City. While raising her family, she worked at Imports International in Buchanan. In the 1970s, she began a career with the State of New York, first with Department of Employment in Peekskill, followed by a long tenure in the tax assessor’s office of the Town of Cortlandt in Croton-on-Hudson, New York.
Natalie loved spending time with her family and friends, cooking family dinners, and enjoying music and theater in New York City. She was a long-time parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Verplanck, volunteering at many church functions and events. For many years, she was a member of the Women’s Club of Peekskill and the Garden Club of Peekskill.
For many years, Natalie and Joe enjoyed homes in Cape Cod and Westerly, Rhode Island, enjoying the ocean beaches and visits from family and friends. In 2018, they relocated to Bradenton, Florida. Natalie and Joe were avid travelers, visiting relatives in Italy and touring much of the United States.
Natalie is survived by her husband of 65 years and her three sons Michael (Ida) of Montvale, New Jersey; Joseph (Robin) of Katonah, New York; and Stephen (Steven) of Los Angeles. Natalie is also survived by her sister, Andrea Matero (Fagan), and was pre-deceased by her sisters Grace Stallone, Linda Klaus (Carminucci) and Eleanor Pearson.
Natalie was a loving grandmother to Michelle, Allison, Lisa, Laura, Anna and Bennett, and to her great-grandchildren Alexander, Isabelle, Juliana, William, Emilia and Sophia. She was a special aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
The family is planning a memorial service to be held later this year at St. Patrick’s Church cemetery in Verplanck.
