

Richard Philip Konen, age 88, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on March 28, 2025. He was born on September 13, 1936 in Aurora, Illinois and moved to the Sarasota area in 1987 from Elgin, Illinois after retiring from the Elgin Fire Department after 30 years of service. Richie or Dick as his friends and family called him was an avid retiree, enjoying nothing more than sitting back in his recliner (nicknamed Big Blue) and taking in his favorite sports teams. He loved to play golf, chew the fat with the local butcher, reminisce about his time as a firefighter, and talk about the next season of his favorite football team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and loved cooking for his friends and family when visiting their Bradenton home he and his wife owned for over 37 years.
He is survived (tragically brief) by his wife Judith Konen of Bradenton, Florida; two children; Catherine (husband Paul) Thomsen of Oracle, Arizona and Todd (wife Teegan) Konen of Sarasota, Florida; four grandchildren, Kennedy Konen, Ronald (wife Ashton) Konen, Valerie (husband Jesse) Revis, and Justine (husband Mikhail) Walker and six great-grandchildren Molly, Jesse Jr., Veronica, and Vivian Revis; and Henry and Calvin Konen. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Philip & Bernice Konen; two sisters, Phyllis Brinlee and Mary Lou Feffer; and two sons Michael and Ronald Konen.
Judith Hammond Konen
Judith Hammond Konen, age 82, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on April 7, 2025. She was born on May 8, 1942 in Elgin, Illinois and moved to the Sarasota area in 1987 from Elgin, Illinois. Judy, as her friends and family called her, was an avid gardener enjoying nothing more than working in her yard on any sunny day, and entertaining family and friends at her home of 37 years. She loved watching all sports, attending church at Northminster Presbyterian Church and catching up on all the neighborhood news on her daily walks in Country Oaks. She had a great and quirky sense of humor and was a caring and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved organizing family gatherings and making sure all her family kept in touch during their visits to the Sunshine State.
She is survived by her sisters; Elizabeth Lange of Sarasota, Florida and Laurie (husband Marty) Olson of Venice, Florida; son; Todd (wife Teegan) Konen of Sarasota, Florida and step-daughter Catherine (husband Paul) Thomsen of Oracle, Arizona; four grandchildren, Kennedy Konen, Ronald (wife Ashton) Konen, Valerie (husband Jesse) Revis, and Justine (husband Mikhail) Walker and six great-grandchildren Molly, Jesse Jr., Veronica, and Vivian Revis; and Henry and Calvin Konen. Judith was preceded in death by her husband Richard Konen; sister Martha Haley; step-sons Michael and Ronald Konen; and parents, David and Marelu Hammond.
A visitation for Richard and Judith will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Manasota Memorial Park, 1221 53rd Ave East, Bradenton, FL 34203. A funeral service will occur Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 1221 53rd Ave East, Bradenton, FL 34203. A committal service will occur Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM, 1221 53rd Ave East, Bradenton, FL 34203.
