

Born July 17, 1929, Dr. Lombardi devoted his life to family, country, and the advancement dentistry. He proudly served in the United States Navy, contributing to dental reconstruction of and rehabilitation at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and at Norfolk Naval Air and Operations Bases. He helped introduce innovative full-mouth rehabilitation and periodontal surgical techniques into Navy practice.
From 1960 to 1993, Dr. Lombardi maintained a private dental practice dedicated to preserving natural dentition and integrating the most advanced restorative methods available. He was awarded an AES Fellowship in Endodontic Techniques by the American Endodontic Society and was among the first in the Northeast to implement modem periodontal surgical methods and dental implants for permanent restorations. He also lectured and contributed to advancements in dental design and research.
A lifelong learner, he studied at Trinity College, the University of Connecticut, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Georgetown University.
Bob was married for 66 years to the love of his life, Brigitte. He is survived by his beloved wife Brigitte; his sons, Mark (and his wife Lynn) of Connecticut and Steven of Florida; cousins Anthony and Joseph Lombardi of Connecticut; and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his father Salvatore, his mother Jennie, and his brother Joseph.
An accomplished instrument-rated pilot, Bob enjoyed flying his own planes and co-constructing a Zodiac homebuilt aircraft. He was a master craftsman who built exquisite scale replicas of whaling ships. He and Brigitte loved skiing the Alps and traveling across the country with friends. Gifted with a remarkable memory, he could recite Shakespeare and the Gettysburg Address well into his 90s.
He will be remembered for his intellect, precision, adventurous spirit, and deep devotion to his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Manasota Memorial Park, 1221 53rd Ave East, Bradenton, FL 34203, US, on March 5, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
