I got to know Maj. Nyberg  in 1987 when I first came to Bradenton while he was line Chief at Jones Aviation. He was always informative and helpful, full of excitement for meeting people and helping them with their airplane needs. Later he invited me to attend a Civil Air Patrol meeting and to join the squadron. He gave me 2 of my 3 qualifying flights to become a CAP pilot, and was just always there at CAP meetings, activities with both Seniors and Cadets. Because of his history with CAP, then USAF  in Vietnam, he had hundreds of stories which we all listened to attentively, as he was NOT a wanna-be, but the real thing. And we knew that. Roger was a friend to all that knew him, always dependable, jovial, and showed he cared by his presence almost every day at the hanger, checking to make sure every crew was ready and up-to-date on elements of the flight. While never pushing his weight around, or having a know-it-all attitude, he humbly did all with a genuine concern and encouragement with our flight crews and all others in CAP.  Roger began a new life with God in 2017 as he prayed to receive His Son Jesus Christ into his life . He experienced God's forgiveness that he had always heard about in John 3:16.  I believe that if Roger could "brief" us all today, he would tell us that Jesus is REAL, that he has seen and is with Him, and that if we want to be there with Him in Heaven when this life is over, we too, should invite Him in to our lives, trust Him  with all our hearts, and live for Christ. He would probably tell us all to read and believe God's Word, the Bible, NOT just the POH or CAPFM 60-1. They only get us so high.  God's Word gets us all the way to Heaven.  Our prayers go up for JoAnn,  Roger, Jr.  and family in Roger's loss.

I am truly saddened to learn of Roger’s passing.  I knew him while I was an active member of the SRQ squadron back in the 1990’s.  He was always ready to step up for any challenge in CAP, performed his duties competently, and could always be relied upon to”be there.”  Moreover, Roger was a genuinely NICE guy and a TRUE Friend.  He will be greatly missed.

Maj. Nyberg was always there at the airport when we were doing cadet flights.  He would be there early to help out at the hanger, looking over the plane, getting it pulled out and chatting with the pilots.  Then I would see him over at the FBO talking to the cadets and the EAA kids.  He had so many great stories to tell and both the kids and adults listened.  He will be missed greatly.

Maj Nyberg has been a fixture at Sarasota Airport during any of our Civil Air Patrol Activities since I joined in 2015. In that short time, I learned much about his service to this country, his love of aviation, and his compassion for other people. He was always interested in lending a hand in getting things ready for our missions, and especially in sharing his knowledge and experience with our Cadets and Senior Members alike. He was consistently a friendly face with a happy demeanor. Maj Nyberg, you will be missed!

The SRQ Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, Sarasota, FL. was saddened to learn of the passing of Major Nyberg. Major Nyberg was an accomplished member having risen to the rank of Major, served as Group Commander, Squadron Commander and Mission Pilot for emergency services among many other qualifications he held. Major Nyberg was a Civil Air Patrol Cadet in 1965.  Major Nyberg's Civil Air Patrol accomplishments are the result of hundreds of hours of volunteer time in training and performance of search and rescue missions. In the last year, our members have frequently asked about Major Nyberg and we were going to honor Major Nyberg at the 2019 Civil Air Patrol Awards Banquet, however, Major Nyberg was unable to attend. We will miss Major Nyberg and he will always hold a place in our Civil Air Patrol history. The SRQ Squadron extends sincere condolences to Major Nyberg's family.

We will miss your stories. You were a part of SRQ history. I know you loved to come out to Dolphin Aviation on Saturdays and talk to anyone that would listen. Especially about your Air Force history.
