

Sandra was born in Bradenton, FL, on November 3, 1942. Sandra was a long time resident of Bradenton and attended Manatee High School. She worked as a nurse for 28 years, and retired from Manatee Family Physicians. Her greatest joys in life were reading, shopping, taking care of countless others, and spending time with her family and beloved dog, Shadow.
Sandra was preceded in death by her father, Hugh Dorsey Mims Sr; her mother, Ouida Freeman; and stepbrother, Hugh Dorsey Mims Jr.
Survivors include her husband, of 56 years, Henry Chewning; sons, Tim Chewning (Sharon) of Bradenton, FL, Chris Chewning (Dena) of Alachua, FL, Mark Chewning (Kelly)of Alachua, FL, and Michael Chewning of Key Largo, FL; stepmother, Bonnie Mims; brother, Thomas Mims; stepsisters, Debbie Norton and Donna Prevatt; seven grandchildren, Cyle Chewning (Melinda), Cale Chewning, Allison Chewning (Jesse), Stephanie Taylor (Justyn), Codey, Matthew, and Mallory; five great-grandchildren, Ally, Madison, Sophia, Cayton, and Corbyn as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12-1pm on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at Manasota Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1pm following the visitation at the funeral home. Interment will be in Manasota Memorial Park.
