Born and raised in Haiti in a small town named Aux Sources on December 8, 1932, Siliana Osit Horatius began her journey through life. She was the fourth daughter of Exana Isophe and Francois Limose family of eight children. She was married to Moncamel Osit for over 50 years, and raised 9 (nine) children in a much disciplined way.
Siliana was a very hard working mother; a wonderful woman who lived a rich, long life filled with challenges, love, and adventures. She was a woman of principle and courage; she was like a sister, a counselor, a mother, a grandmother, and a friend to us.
Siliana Osit Horatius was a resilient woman; she was more than just a strong figure. She was a farmer and merchant since 1950. She endured all of life's bitterness and indulged in all of life’s sweetness. She suffered an early loss with her mom and dad, and later her two children Simone and Nodet which was very heartbroken, but she managed to pull herself together. Later, in October 2013, she lost her beloved husband Moncamel Osit at age 84.
She was an active member, and a strong Catholic believer at St Charles Borome Aux Gonaives. Syliana was a resident of Casamora nursing home after sixteen years of struggling with stroke and passed away at Blake Hospital after a few days in ICU on Wednesday June 22nd, 2016.
Siliana will forever be remembered by her loving sisters Rosalina, Emma, Gracieuse, her 9 beloved children Wilner, Francois, Octavien, Clervina, Jean Bernard, Sylvana, and Charline, her treasured twenty-four grandchildren and four great grandchildren, her caring nieces and nephews, in-laws, and step children, along with countless other friends whom were blessed to know her.
Siliana touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity and maintained her trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. She lived a full life, complete with laughter and sorrow. As we gather today, although we will miss her physical presence in our lives, let’s not just grieve, but also celebrate her life as it was fully lived. As we talk and visit, let us share our memories, as her Spirit continues to live in all of us.
