Born on September 7, 1937, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late Walter and Mary Soller, Anne was a brilliant and accomplished individual. She graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Mathematics and later earned a master’s degree in computer science. After completing her studies, Anne spent much of her early adulthood in New York City, later relocating to New Jersey in the 1960s. In 1983, she and her family moved to California, where she would spend most of her life.
Anne met her husband, Richard Emerson Mears, as camp counselors at a summer camp in Colorado, and together they raised three children: David, Michael, and Christopher. In 1984, the family made their home in California, where Anne had a distinguished career as a computer programmer for the U.S. Navy. A pioneer in her field, she retired after 27 years of service, having contributed to the development of satellite programming. Anne’s work was more than a career—it was a lifelong passion that helped shape the technological advancements that continue to impact the world today.
Outside of her professional achievements, Anne was a talented and passionate painter, drawing inspiration from the world around her. Her artwork, often centered around her family, is cherished by her children and remains a beloved part of their homes.
Anne is survived by her husband, Richard Emerson Mears; her sons, Michael Mears and Christopher Mears; and her grandchildren, Nicholas (Em), Johnathan, William, Jack, and Finian.
A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Branchville Cemetery.
