Evelyn was born on July 2, 1938, in Manhattan, New York, to the late Salvatore and Constance Arcuni. She spent most of her life in Westchester, New York, before eventually settling in Branchville.
Evelyn married Arthur Powers, Sr., and after 17 years, the couple went their separate ways. She never remarried, choosing instead to devote herself fully to her family and to raising her children. Family was, without question, the most important part of her life.
Evelyn’s love and dedication extended beyond her immediate household. When her two sisters passed away, she lovingly stepped in to help raise her nieces and nephew. Years later, after the loss of her son Arthur Jr., Evelyn again stepped in to help care for her granddaughter by offering stability, love, and unwavering support.
Evelyn’s deep influence is still evident in the lives of all her grandchildren, each of whom carries a part of her with them. She made it a priority to stay close, planning yearly trips to Vancouver, British Columbia, to spend cherished time with family in Canada. Her presence was a steady source of love and guidance—a legacy that continues to shape those she held dear.
Caring for others wasn’t just something Evelyn did, it was an inseparable part of who she was. With a heart full of compassion and strong hands always ready to help, she spent over 20 years as a devoted home health aide. During that time, Evelyn was also a sales representative for Mary Kay as well as a masseuse.
There was no mistaking Evelyn’s independent spirit and she loved being the driver on long trips with her family, always ensuring their safety. Aside from being the loving matriarch, she was determined to forge her own path in life. Cooking was one of her many passions, and Evelyn shared that joy for 14 years as the owner and operator of Keep on Trucking Café in Mt Kisco, New York. Art was another passion that brought Evelyn joy and she started her college career at the age of 60, ultimately earning her Associate's Degree in Fine Arts.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Corine (Allan) Barton, David Powers, and Kenneth Powers; and her grandchildren, Kelly, Lindsey, Noah, and Emily. She is predeceased by her son, Arthur Powers, Jr.; and her sisters, Jeanette and Dorothy Arcuni.
