George earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Columbia University. He spent 37 years with the Port Authority, where his steady work ethic and calm reliability carried him through a long career, most recently serving as an acting Duty Manager prior to retirement. He took pride in doing things the right way—and in doing them thoroughly.
To the people who knew him best, George was the kind of man who showed up. He stayed active in his family’s lives and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren, always keeping close and making sure the people he loved felt supported, protected, and never alone in whatever they were facing.
He also made sure life was enjoyed along the way. George loved skiing and was a Level 2 PSIA ski instructor, traveling to ski all over the world and bringing the same energy to the slopes that he brought everywhere else. When he wasn’t skiing, he was happiest outdoors—fishing, hiking, or golfing—usually with a good story ready and an even better laugh not far behind.
George had a gift for making people feel welcome. He loved feeding people and, true to form, would never let anyone else cover the bill. He was always having fun, often the life of the party, and he genuinely loved spending time with his family and friends—because to George, the best moments were the ones shared.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Schneider; his son, Michael P. Schneider; and his parents, Robert and Gail Schneider. He is survived by his son, Eric Schneider and his wife, Katie; his daughter, Lindsey Meissner and her husband, Jason; and his grandchildren, Dean, Audrey, Mikayla, and Evelyn. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Eddie Lippert; his sister-in-law, Margaret Guzman; and many close friends including, Anthony Napolitano, Nick Costides, and John Dalessio, among others he viewed as family.
