Harold was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY where he attended Brooklyn Technical High School and earned his diploma as a chemical technician. After high school, Harold started his first job working for Pfizer as a quality control chemist. He was later accepted into Pratt Institute to pursue a degree program in chemical engineering. His studies with Pratt included participation in the ROTC. After Officer Basic Training at Fort Bragg, he received his commission as a 2nd lieutenant in the chemical corps of the United States Army, in 1958, the very same year he received his degree in chemical engineering.
Harold completed his active military obligation in 1959 and began his career as a chemical engineer. He was employed by Monsanto as Director of Laboratories and after six years he joined the Natvar Corporation as Vice President of Operations. During this period, he also served with the New Jersey National Guard, as a Chemical Officer in Division Headquarters of the 50th Armored Division, Reporting to General Wolff. He completed his military service in 1969 and was discharged with the permanent rank of Captain. At that point, Harold furthered his education even more by earning his master's degree in engineering management from Newark College of Engineering.
Over the years Harold held various management positions with Cary Industries, Cooper Industries and Ames Rubber Corporation. In 1998, he retired from Chemical Engineering and began teaching business classes at Sussex County Community College.
In addition to his technical pursuits, Harold displayed a love of horses, having owned and cared for them throughout his life. He spent many hours riding and nurturing them, fostering a deep bond with these magnificent animals. His mini farm in Hunterdon County was a testament to his love for the land, where he cared for his horses and found peace and tranquility in cultivating gardens that added to the serene beauty of his home. Harold’s love of the outdoors was also illustrated by his fondness for camping, whether in a tent or in a camper, he was up for the adventure.
A proud member of the National Rifle Association, Harold found joy in visiting the gun range near the local library, where he honed his skills and shared camaraderie with fellow enthusiasts. An avid builder and operator of HAM radios, he delighted in connecting with others and exploring the waves of communication. Harold’s creativity extended to playing classical guitar, and crafting intricate model ships, which reflected his love for being on the open water and sailing on his own boat.
Above all, Harold was a devoted family man. He cherished the time spent with loved ones, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His kindness, generosity, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
