Kenneth “Kenny Mac” Arthur McNamara, 77, passed away on October 25, 2026. Born on December 12, 1948, in Newark, New Jersey. Kenny spent his first eleven years in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, and then moved to Culver Lake, Frankford Township, in 1960. Kenny worked in the family business, Safety Scaffolds.
Kenny lived with a sense of adventure that never seemed to run out of road. A devoted, lifelong Deadhead and proud fan of the Grateful Dead, he carried that free-spirited, easygoing rhythm into the way he lived each day—carefree, unbothered by life’s unnecessary fuss, and always ready for whatever came next. He traveled the world, collecting friends and memories with the kind of curiosity that made the horizon feel like an open invitation.
Kenny Mac is survived by his sisters, Mary Thum, Margaret “Peggy” Aull, Nancy Stretch, and Jodi Taylor; and his brother, Michael McNamara. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine “Joan” (Oates) McNamara; his father, John Joseph “Jack” McNamara; his brothers, John McNamara and Thomas McNamara; and his sister, Aleen Laprelle. Kenny is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In remembering Kenny Mac, it feels right to picture a life lived with lighter footsteps and a quick wit—one that made room for music, movement, and just enough mischief to keep things interesting.
The Celebration of Kenny Mac’s Long Strange Trip will be at The Stepping Stone School, 13 Ridge Rd, Branchville, NJ, on Friday, October 30, 2026. Live music starts at 3:30 pm and tribute will be at 4:20 pm. BYOB, “pot”luck, and lawn chair for the bonfire!
