Marjorie Everitt Black passed away February 13th, 2022 at the age of 98. Marjorie was born April 21, 1923 to Harold and Carrie Everitt in Port Jervis, New York. Marjorie was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt, and nurse.
Marjorie grew up on a dairy farm in Montague, New Jersey. She developed her instinct for nursing early on by caring for the farm's barn cats. After graduation from Port Jervis High School she pursued her career attending nursing school at Hackensack Hospital. She graduated in 1945 and immediately enlisted in the US Army Nurse Corp. Marjorie was stationed in the CBI Theater at 20th General Hospital, Karachi, India (now Pakistan) until the end of World War II.
Upon returning home she married James Laurence Black and helped run the family dairy farm. She continued her love of nursing, working at Newton Memorial Hospital as an operating room nurse. Marjorie loved being a nurse. It was her passion. Her life was also greatly impacted by her time "in service". Those two things were guiding factors for everything she did.
She and "Larry" retired in their 60's. They enjoyed travel and took many trips around the United States and internationally. They travelled to California regularly to visit their son James who resides in San Diego.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her loving husband Laurence, her two brothers, John and Harold Everitt and one sister, Helen Casterlin. She is survived by her son James, daughter-in-law Cece and many nieces and nephews.
Marjorie spent the last 15 years of her life lovingly cared for in the memory care unit at Bentley Assisted Living in Branchville, NJ.
Memorial services will take place at 12 noon on Thursday June 16, 2022 at the Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main St Branchville, NJ. Memorial visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home.
