Born in Newton, New Jersey, on June 27 of 1970, Michael spent his earliest days with his fraternal grandparents and great-grandmother before moving to Branchville, where he remained a lifelong resident.
Michael studied commercial arts at Sussex Tech, and later followed his passion for art by continuing his training in trade school. In January of 1995, at just 24 years old, Michael suffered a traumatic brain injury from an accident that forever changed the course of his life. Despite the challenges he faced, Michael persevered with resilience and never let go of his creative spirit.
An exceptionally talented artist, he painted a wide range of subjects—portraits, animals, landscapes, and even intricate mystical scenes inspired by Dungeons & Dragons. Alongside his paintings, Michael was a gifted storyteller and writer, often weaving narratives to accompany his artwork. Along with his artistic pursuits, Michael was also a member of the Brain Trauma Association, where he found friendship and advocacy among fellow survivors.
Michael faithfully attended the United Methodist Church in Branchville, often walking to Sunday services and gratefully accepting a ride home from the pastor afterward. His faith was a steady part of his life and community.
Over the past year Michael resided in a special program for brain injury survivors at Progressive Rehab in Milford, Pennsylvania, where he was surrounded by compassionate care and a circle of dear friends.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, James and Cheryl (Pollison) Kinney. He is survived by his uncle, Warren Pollison, and many loving cousins who will miss him dearly.
