We were so very shocked and saddened to hear of Tom’s passing. 
I first met Tom during my interview process with Barton.  It was November 1991. I am grateful for the 12 years we shared our business life and friendship. 
The first time I actually experienced the humor in Tom’s personality was right after I was hired. We went to lunch with several other associates and he was hysterical cracking jokes continuously. Since I was new to Atlanta, Tom took us to The Varsity, a famous landmark restaurant serving hot dogs/burgers and fries and it was from that day on I enjoyed our laughs and his clever humerous side.
Tom put together our 1998 Barton Baseball Team.  At our first practice I got hit with a powerful batters ball which left a painful egg size lump on my leg. From that practice on I feared being in the field. When the season was over Tom had a party at home and he gave out plaques.  My plaque stated…Pam Proenza, Team Chaplain.  When I asked him the meaning behind the chaplain title he said…”It is because before every game you Prayed you would not have to play”. And there is was again…his great sense of humor.
I also remember our customer meetings together, presentations with potential customers, lunches and dinners at his favorite restaurants…Bones and Morton’s.  I will also cherish our quiet conversations in his office about life in general.  One day he shared with me when he retired that he very much wanted to write a book; so I hope he was able to do that. 
I send my heartfelt condolences to Todd and the entire Carroll family.  He is in God’s hands now and I am sure he is making the angels laugh already. Rest in Peace Tom…You will be missed.

I first met Tom when I began to manage a building in the heart of downtown Atlanta 12 months before the 1996 Olympics.  We had to put together a plan to meet the demands of our tenants and our building owners.  It was like putting together a  giant jigsaw puzzle and I loved every minute of it.  We became instant friends and business associates.  Our friendship lasted throughout the years - from multiple properties, multiple Braves Games, multiple Super Bowl Parties, and martinis at New York Prime.  I always cherished our times together.  In retirement, mine, not his, as I don't think Tom truly ever retired, his humorous emails, with such attention to detail, and the tiny glimpses he gave me of his younger life,  were always savored,  to be reread numerous times.  He still owed me a "second act" on one story that he never completed.    I will miss his humor, his intelligence, his professionalism, but most of all, I will miss the times we shared.  Rest in peace, Tom.  You have earned it!

I am still in shock over the passing of Tom.
We have known each other for forty nine years dating back to our time together at Wells Fargo.
Over those years we have been close friends.
We would call each other every year on our birthdays.
I was looking forward to our call on March ninth.
Maybe I will still call Tom anyway!
Knowing him,he may just answer the phone!
We always talk for hours reminiscing all the good times we had together.
When things were rough, we would somehow find away to help each other.
In fact,Tom was instrumental in my coming to Barton.
It turned out to be a great move for both of us as we forged together with so many great people one of the best security companies ever!
Tom, I know you can hear me up there in heaven with Rick and Ralph,so my friend, I will miss you but never forget you!

Tom Ward

This is the last time I got to visit Tom at Tommy Land. I am guessing he has already established a new Tommy Land in the heavens where everyone is welcomed and laughter prevails. Tom was the most giving boss and friend. He was generous with his time, advice, and hospitality. He would go to bat for you if he believed in you. But if you were wrong he would be sure and tell you but in such a way you would laugh at how ridiculous your idea or complaint was. He just had such a way to make you feel supported  and valued. He  was a great mentor. I watched how customers were at ease with him and sat up and listened to the  wise advice he’d give them.  He never came cheap but it was worth every penny if they followed  what he said. As a friend, time spent with him was always full of great conversation and lots and lots of laughter. Sometimes it would take you a second to get his underlying dry humor. I will forever be grateful and honored that I called Tom my friend. I know I will see you again my friend. I know his family and many many friends feel the void at his passing. Peace be with you knowing Tom is in good hands.

Dear Todd and Tim:

I was saddened to hear the news of my dear friend Tom's passing.  You have my deepest sympathies for you both and your family.

Tom became an instant and dear friend of mine dating back to 1995 before the Atlanta Olympics.   I would have never made it through that experience without all Tom's knowledge of security and guidance to help secure all our buildings. 
 
Over the years we developed a great friendship, and I always looked forward to Tom's wisdom, great humor, fun dinners at Morton’s Atlanta or Joe’s in Miami.  They could not be topped by the wittiest of e-mails Tom would send to me over the years.  I always thought Tom should write a book.   
 
As we both retired, we stayed in touch with phone calls, dinners when we could or those funny e-mails. 

Last year on February 27, 2024, I was lucky to catch Tom in Miami and we had a wonderful dinner at Morton's.  Later that evening I received a beautiful text with Tom telling me after he met my husband that Tom finally approved of this husband for me.  I will treasurer that dinner and the e-mails over the last year.  
I will truly miss that great friend I had in Tom.
