Born and raised in Sussex County, Walt was a proud 1966 graduate of Newton High School. He served his country with honor in the US Army during the Vietnam War and later dedicated over 30 years of service to the New Jersey Department of Transportation before his retirement.
Walt will be remembered for his unwavering patriotism, kind heart, and love of life's simple joys. Whether golfing, fishing, hunting, playing cornhole, horseshoes, or strumming his guitar, he brought warmth and laughter to every gathering. His deep love for country music and family traditions made him a cherished presence at every occasion.
He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Jean (Runion) Shelley, and his beloved wife, Susan. He is survived by his daughter, Kristine Kester and her husband Matthew; his son, Kevin Shelley and his partner April; and his grandchildren, Sadie and Owen. Walt also leaves behind his brother, Clarence Shelley Jr., and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, August 7th, at 1:00 pm, at Branchville Cemetery in Frankford. A celebration of Walt's life will immediately follow at Hampton Diner.
