

Kathy Jean Schroeppel, age 74, passed away at her home in Tampa, FL on August 6, 2023. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 5, 1948, and she moved to Tampa with her family in 1954. She graduated from Robinson High School, class of 1966. She worked as an executive assistant for several companies and retired from Grant Thornton in 2011. Kathy was an avid volunteer, some of the organizations she worked with include Lifepath Hospice, local elementary schools, and the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. Since retirement, Kathy enjoyed baking her famous pound cake and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, going for walks with her rescue pups, and traveling. Kathy was known for loving deeply and generously and with great joy. We are all better because of Kathy’s influence and example in our lives.
Kathy is survived by her special furry friend, Daisy; her siblings, Beverly Spencer, and Charles Schroeppel (Kaye); nieces and nephew, Shari Dawson (Mike), Courtney Morgan (Jay), and Jeffrey Spencer (Christie Safos); grand-nieces and nephew, Rachael Kundicz (James), Kirstin Dawson (Andrew), Kathryn Thomas (Seth) and Patric Morgan; as well as countless friends who have become family. She was predeceased by her parents, Ernest “Ernie” (2004) and Beulah “Boots” Schroeppel (2018); her brother, Thomas Schroeppel (2016); her brother-in-law, Peter M. Spencer (2009).
Kathy was a loving sister and aunt and was a loyal friend to many. The family would like to thank her dear friends, Kit and Rhonda; neighbor, Jill; loving aides turned family, Destiny and Heather; the amazing doctors who cared for her during the last year and a half; and the team at Suncoast Hospice.
Services celebrating Kathy’s life are in the works and will be announced via Kathy’s memorial site (https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/brandon-fl/kathy-schroeppel-11397952). Interment will follow for family. The family encourages attendees to wear floral prints or color, to embody Kathy’s spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (www.humanesocietytampa.org) or St. Jude’s (www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude).
