Honoring Colten Guerra — A Life of Creativity, Humor and Heart
Colten Daniel Guerra, lovingly known throughout our community as Team Hulken, earned his wings on October 3rd after nearly eleven courageous years living with Neuroblastoma. In that time, he didn’t just battle cancer—he showed it who’s boss, again and again.
Colten was more than a fighter. He was a radiant spirit, an unforgettable personality, and a beacon of strength, bravery, and relentless positivity. Though his time here was far too short, his impact was immeasurable.
From the time he was a toddler, Colten was drawn to all things strong and tough. He would often yell “Hulk Smash!”—and before long, his friends began calling him Hulken. He might have outgrown the Hulk but that strength never left him. Colten was incredibly stoic—often described as an old soul in a young body. As he grew, his wit and humor only sharpened. He had a gift for voices and impersonations that could leave anyone laughing, and a natural ability to brighten the day just by being himself.
Aside from snuggles with his cat Una, time with family and friends was always the highlight of his week—filled with laughter, inside jokes, and endless giggles. He kept pushing forward, playing even when he knew he’d be sore later, and filling every day with the things he loved: Minecraft, sword battles, Beyblades, Zelda, Pokémon, cats, and each night was Pop’o Clock, a huge bowl of popcorn. Ever since he was little, Colten loved to dress up—even on an ordinary Tuesday—and his imagination, much like his brother Cameron’s, was boundless. Even at 15 and 18, they continued to have epic imagination battles together. They have always had a special bond.
Colten didn’t just endure hospital life—he lived it. He built forts, started dance battles, wore costumes (always), launched Beyblade tournaments, had “Chef Colten’s Bakery,” greeted his medical team in his best British accent, waged thumb wars, crafted shadow puppets, gamed loud enough for everyone to hear (and wonder if that kid was okay in there), and even pulled a few legendary night-shift pranks. All of those shenanigans didn’t just make each day brighter—they sparked something in others too. Without even realizing it, he showed that joy can always be found, that there’s a win to be celebrated in every day, and that life is meant to be fully lived—no matter where you are.
Colten’s compassion matched his courage. He shared his journey to lift others—bringing nurses gifts, sharing his artwork, delivering “Smash-a-Grams,” or sending encouraging messages to others fighting their own battles. Colten’s light will never go out — it lives on in each of us.
The Guerra family beat cancer every day by the way they chose to live—with creativity, laughter, and purpose. That was the true victory. As Colt would say, “We lived life like a professional.”
